Description:
The Ohio Buckeye is a great shade tree for big yards. It has a nice rounded outline and shiny dark green hand shaped leaves, that turn orange in the fall. The nuts conatin tannic acid which makes them poisonous to humans, horses, cattle and sheep, but squirrels go nuts over them with no ill effect. The nuts however can be blanched and the tannic acid removed for use in leather tanning.
These trees are pretty slow growing no matter where you plant them, but they do like rich well drained soil in a full to partial sun location.
